Boost your productivity with preconfigured Microsoft 365 Copilot agents

Exercise – Using an Agent of Your Choice

Estimated reading: 3 minutes 14 views

With a growing ecosystem of AI-powered specialized agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot, users now have the flexibility to choose the tool best suited for the task at hand. Whether you’re preparing a meeting, managing a project, catching up on missed communications, or analyzing data, the preconfigured agents are designed to simplify your workflow using your own Microsoft 365 data. This lab offers an open hands-on experience, allowing you to explore one of these agents, test its capabilities, and apply it to a real productivity challenge from your daily work.

Note

This course does not include a Microsoft 365 lab tenant with sample data. You will need to complete this exercise using your own personal data.

Exercise

This practical exercise allows you to take a hands-on approach to understanding the preconfigured agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat by applying them to a real situation from your recent work. Think of a project you’ve been involved in over the past 90 days—something that required coordination, communication, or follow-up. It could be a report you had to write, a delayed team deliverable, a client request lost in emails, or a series of meetings where decisions were never clearly documented.

Your task is to select a preconfigured Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat agent that you believe can help you solve a problem or gain insights into this project.

Steps to see how the chosen agent can act as a true productivity partner:

Important

Previous exercises in this module used the Analyst and Researcher agents. For this exercise, do not use those agents. Instead, choose another preconfigured agent to gain experience with the full range of Copilot capabilities and understand which agent is best suited for each type of task.

  1. In Microsoft Edge, open a new tab and enter the following URL: https://M365copilot.com
  2. In Microsoft 365, select All Agents in the navigation pane, then in the Agent Store window, select the agent of your choice under the Created by Microsoft section.
👉 Reminder: Do not use the Researcher or Analyst agents for this exercise.
  3. The goal of this exercise is to interact with the agent using your own data. Start by reviewing the agent’s built-in query suggestions. Try one or two of the sample queries listed on the agent’s page.
  4. After testing the sample queries, run three to five queries or actions supported by the agent. Explore the data the agent can access, such as your calendar, emails, files, or organizational data. The queries should be relevant to your project and the agent you selected. Here are some examples to inspire you:
    • Analyze team activity (if supported by the agent)
    • Identify key files, tasks, or trends
    • Ask how to integrate a new system
    • Help brainstorm an upcoming project
    • Provide guidance for career development
    • Offer feedback on a writing draft
  5. Then ask the agent to create a concrete deliverable, such as a summary, list, document, or action plan. For example:
    • Review missed messages and generate a follow-up plan
    • Write a status update or meeting prep document
    • Create a report summarizing threads or conversations

Take this opportunity to test other preconfigured agents. Start by reviewing the sample queries they offer, which illustrate the types of requests they can handle. Run some of these queries or enter your own custom prompts to discover the kinds of tasks these agents can help you accomplish.
